Results are in for the sticky space cake

Controversial, this one:

And the comments:

"soft and moist"

"jolly good"

"lovely taste, charming to look at, homely looking"

"texture not perfect, taste of the icing and cake are in contradiction with each other"

"good but icing a little strange"

"very moist beautiful flavour"

"very smooth cake, balanced flavour, not too sweet, jolly good"

"icing is good but doesn't look nice"

"nice"

"flavour good, but a little stodgy"

I think we can safely say this is a mixed Joe 90 briefcase, results-wise.

And now I need to do one. The sister is here in readiness for my best friend/adopted brothers birthday this weekend. He's 40-odd going on 12, and we're going to fancypants Mark Hix Mayfair (get us!) for a slap up nosh tomorrow night. But for now, after weeks of deliberation ("I want that one", "No, I want that one"), he's finally decided he wants some I'm a Giant cakes for his birthday so the Lakeland bad boy beckons. Oh and it's cake club tomorrow. Full report on that next week - theme is "Spring has Sprung". I'll do summat daring with Amalfi lemons. At least I think they're Amalfi lemons, I didn't have my readers on when I bought them...

oooh, controversial indeed! Have a fun weekend with all that birthday / friends / family / cake / baking fun-ness. Look forward to the follow-up reports. Keep those readers to hand... lack of glasses + wine could = some disastrous misunderstandings! Then again, that would make for fun reading :)

Thanks Mrs K! I'll keep my readers close, don't you worry. Hope you'll be baking up a storm from those new books of yours and blogging the results :)

Sounds like a top weekend, Barnes - enjoy - and I'm intrigued by what your 'lemons' might turn out to be.
