Dave Grohl saves the day and the results

A bit of news on what I like to call "coffee-gate", thanks to Twitter and specifically @MrsK_07:

coffee cake NOT containing coffee made me laugh. I lived in States and have tried/failed to explain US coffee cake to the UK!

So they know it doesn't contain coffee?? That's just being contrary for the sake of it!

haha, not our kind of coffee cake! It's used generally as a breakfast food cos it is designed to go WITH coffee, hence name!

So, it seems that it's quite acceptable over the pond to call a cake a coffee cake because you can eat it with coffee. I think I'd call it a bit of a porkie pie myself but I don't want to make a diplomatic incident out of it. Luckily for Ina, I'd quite forgotten about the Foo Fighters in my list of lovely American stuff yesterday, so she has Dave Grohl to thank for me drawing a veil over the whole sorry business. Well, Dave Grohl and the fact that it's a gorgeous cake.

But, back to the Brooklyn Blackout Cake. Here are some lovely graphs:

And here are some lovely comments:

"delicious icing"

"top delicious, base a little dry"

"excellent, delicious like choc fudge cake"

"jolly nice"

"great! Torte like!"

"choc perfect but too rich"

"very rich but lovely"

"lovely combination of sponge & choc cream, but too many calories"

Seems to have tickled the tasters tastebuds. Try saying that after a few gins. I won't of course as temperance is a virtue. Until next week...

Great results! I don't like coffee so I'm quite happy for a coffee cake not to actually have coffee in it! Haha. Here is that butter converting link I mentioned... http://www.traditionaloven.com/conversions_of_measures/butter_converter.html

Ohhh, I see. So it could be called a tea cake then which could start a whole world of confusion could it not? I'll just keep thinking of Dave Grohl too then so's not to get too embroiled in the debate..

Technically Table, it could be called a Keith Richards on a Sherbert Flying Saucer cake. Hang on... thats a FANTASTIC name for a cake! Stick that in that genius ideas dossier...

Brooklyn Blackout Cake is one of my favourite chocolate 'no coffee' cakes!! PS if I want a COFFEE CHOCOLATE dessert the answer is Tiramisu'..., but I cannot share that with my already energetic 2 young boys....

Oooooh Tiramisu is one of my faves Rita. I can see that added caffeine might not be the best thing with two youngsters!!
